Awesome gravel pit spot on a lake (or pond, as the Newfoundlanders would call it). Take the dirt road off of the highway where there is another parking lot right along the road, and follow it until you meet the t’railway (where the old railway used to run). You’ll see a CN-type sign that says Alexander Bay and there’s a big gravel pit along the water with plenty of space for any size rig. No facilities but there were fire pits and rings when we camped there during the first week of September. No other campers that night but I’m sure it’s popular on summer weekends. A few cars and quads came by on the dirt road but otherwise, perfectly peaceful. It’s 10km outside of the boundary to Terra Nova so a perfect spot to spend a night before exploring the park the next day. About 3 hours from St. John’s.
