“Wild camping” is hard to find in Florida. Especially for free. The main difference between camping in Florida’s WMAs (Water/Wildlife Management Areas) and other states’ BLM areas is that WMAs require a free reservation (called a Special Use License). Unfortunately they’re not very spur of the moment since you often have to wait for an email permit (could be a day or two) but they’re still a popular alternative to the ever popular Walmarts of Florida.
Green Swamp has several different campgrounds within the east and west tracts, with the equestrian campgrounds best suited for RVs. We stayed at Ashley because it was the only open campground (check hunting dates!!) and it was lovely. Among lots of trees and complete with picnic tables, a vault toilet and fire rings, Ashley is a nice, quiet campground.
Max stay is 7 days.
