Road turnouts within the Smith River Recreation Area of the Six Rivers National Forest. We tucked ourselves into a turnout near a small waterfall that felt further away from the road than some of the other turnouts. As long as you’re 1/2 km or 1/4 mi from a developed campground, you can pretty much camp primitively anywhere in the Rec Area as long as you adhere to the NF’s basic guidelines. You can probably find spots suitable for anything from a tent to a big rig if you do some exploring – and the main road is paved so very easy to maneuver. Six Rivers National Forest waterfalls are beautiful and camping on the Smith River is a great way to check them out.
Max stay is 30 days.
