Waterside rest area just off highway 19A. There are toilets, trash cans, picnic tables and even a Shaw Open wifi network! Yay! This is just south of Union Bay and 21.5km from Courtenay.

As with all rest areas in the province, it says to limit your stay to 8 hours but we had no issues staying longer.

    1. Precisely. It’s just south of Union Bay, the official name is Baynes Sound. As mentioned in the description, there is an 8 hr time limit so it’s a good place to pull over and rest after an Island roadtrip.

  1. We spent a quiet comfortable night here. It is right on the road, but very little traffic until 6am
